Rafa Benítez, SSC Napoli head coach, was disappointed with the negative result at the end of the game in the ´Olimpico´ stadium in Rome. Yet he remained patient and analytical in the post-match press conference and detailed the moments and situations of the game including a fair reflection of the strong points displayed by his team today on the pitch including the large number of clear chances that the Neapolitan team experienced. In summary Benítez declared: "after having played at a very high level in many parts of the game, I think it is absolutely unbelievable that we have not been able to take home a better result, a result much more in line with our merits throughout the game".

"It is a real shame that the team have had to bear once again another defeat in this way", lamented the Spanish coach before adding: "I think the way we approached the game was correct. Just as we had prepared beforehand, we knew what to expect and we controlled the game most of the time. In fact, we created many very clear chances against a team that is second in the table, this means that there is not much difference between the two squads. I think even a draw would have fallen short for us in light of our performance today".

The head coach of the ´azzurro´ bench later added to his analysis by especially highlighting his team´s reaction after the goal conceded. He stated: "As soon as Roma scored their goal they were able to breath and continue more calmly. But I think that we also reacted very well, we reached the opposite goal immediately with clear chances to draw especially by Callejón and De Guzmán. In the second half, we also had five or six chances by Mertens, Gabbiadini and Zapata. But De Sanctis was superb and saved their result, we must congratulate him".

"I repeat once again that in my opinion it is incredible that we were not able to score in this game and take home a victory today. If we had drawn, I am convinced that we could have even won. We were missing precision and maturity once again, these are two negative aspects from a generally very positive performance" explained the head coach of the Neapolitan team who later recognised that: "perhaps we might be missing some clarity in certain moments and at the same time determination in the opposite goal. But I think today´s performance confirms that we can do well and make the most of our chances in the games to come".

To finish, Benítez looked forward to the future, to the Neapolitan team´s forthcoming games from here to the end of the season, stating: "now we have the home leg of the Italian Cup semi-final, a trophy that we can also win this year and has been one of our objectives since the start of the season. We must insist and stay focused from game to game. We can still have a good season, a very good one even I would say, we still cannot know with exactness. At the moment we have a lot to play for both in Italy and in Europe".
