Rafa Benítez, SSC Napoli head coach, was visibly annoyed at the end of their game against AC Milan at the San Siro stadium (2-0). The head coach of the Neapolitan team recognised his squad's weaknesses and mistakes though he regretted that once again they had not converted the chances that they had created, the game could have taken a very different turn had they converted some of their chances at key moments of he game. Benítez began his analysis highlighting this positive aspect of the game particularly the number of chances his team displayed above all in the first half: "we could have scored the goal to draw, we could have done this at a key moment of the game, but the truth is I think we were missing confidence. The necessary confidence to change the course of the game."

"We cannot deny that the game started badly, especially as we conceded a goal in the first minutes, on their first shot at goal. But it is also true that after Menez' goal we had the chance to draw, on more than one occasion, I think we deserved the draw above all because of the chances we had" said the Spanish coach, who also added: "the opportunities were there, they were occurring but we weren't able to finish. Furthermore this is becoming a constant pattern this season, despite the fact that we are amongst the teams that takes most shots at goal we do not have a good percentage in finishing. It is clear we are not managing to score like for example last season."

Concerning their rival, Benítez declared: "it is obvious that Milan counts on players of great quality, so we suffered when they had possession during the first minutes. But later we recovered many balls, making counterattacks in search of our rival's goal. Our most serious mistake is positioning", recognised the head coach of the azzurro team and he later explained "in their first goal, the midfielders did not protect the defensive line how they should have and how we had planned so Menez was able to pass between them. That said, afterwards we recovered and we could have made the most of, as I said before, the number of chances at goal that we created."

When asked about third place, which remains further away after this defeat, the Spanish coach replied: "there are many teams, or at least a good number of them that are close in points, it is quite equal in this part of the table. I think it will be a long and intense season which we have to think about and take perspective. Focussing only on ourselves, our possibilities and improvement. We have to play like we know we can, we must recover confidence in our quality and potential. If the team shows what they are capable of then all we can do is grow."

"This squad has shown that they can play big games against any opponent" said the head coach before finally stating: "perhaps what we are missing is continuity. We have a problem in finishing, we score fewer goals than last year. We are probably missing calmness and confidence in those last metres, but I believe we create many opportunities."
