Rafa Benítez, SSC Napoli coach, was really disappointed with the final result against Cagliari (3-3) especially after they had the three points within reach. He made his feelings clear in the post match press conference at the end of the game held at the San Paolo stadium. The Neapolitan team dominated a good part of the game and went ahead by two goals to nil during the first half. The head coach recognised his team´s work but regretted the final result, he said: "we had complete control of the game, we were ahead on the scoreboard with a good advantage and then I think we literally gave away this draw to Cagliari".

"We had the victory within reach, but let´s be sincere and recognise that we lost intensity after the two nil and we, like many times in football, paid a high price", continued the ´azzurro´ coach, who also admitted “anyone could have noticed that we could have scored even more goals, clearly we had many chances but it was the defensive phase that cost us. We did not develop it in an excellent way like we did in the last three or four games. We can´t forget that Cagliari plays very well, always protecting the spaces up front and we knew that we could have difficulties if we weren’t completely focused and concentrated on our job. However, I do consider that the team did some things well and they showed this by gaining an advantage on the scoreboard during a good length of time. Perhaps, we were missing the final finishing of the job".

The head coach of the Neapolitan team could not hide his disappointment and made his position clear concerning this unsatisfactory draw between Napoli and Cagliari: "Clearly, after everything we did to score even twice, it was very annoying to give it away and let the rival back in the game, losing the points. As I see it, I think we gifted this draw to Cagliari and I believe this is precisely the most negative point of the game this afternoon", explained the Spanish coach, who then said "the team did what they had to do to win, that is true and we must recognise this, and during the first half hour we played with the appropriate focus and intensity. But it is very important to maintain this mentality during the ninety minutes, instead of this we lost pace and concentration".

"I repeat, we are really upset because the scoreline was in our favour and we had control of the game. But we must acknowledge that we were the ones to give this game away and lose two points", stated Benítez who then added: "of course this is something I don’t like, we work hard to prepare the games to try and get them in our favour to then be generous with the rival. But now there is no solution to this and we cannot lose too much energy in disappointment because we need to continue working and looking forward. We will analyse in detail all the errors to try and find a solution to the root of it all. That said, I also want to say that despite this we have been able to see positive signs in the game today", concluded Spanish coach.
