The Real Madrid manager, Rafa Benítez, analysed the win against PSG in the press room. The victory means his side have qualified for the Champions League: "This game makes the first leg much more important. Getting a result as we did and winning here against a great side shows that we are getting there, we have qualified. We were able to stick in there and in the second half we had various counterattacks to try and get another goal. The value of this win is increased by the quality of the opponents we faced".

"I felt more positive about the second half, where he had more control. We defended better and we had more counterattacks. In the first half we lacked possession but we were playing against a great side. Getting players back from injury will be a breath of fresh air and will provide quality that will be noticeable because we now have players that have accumulated a lot of games".

Defence

"Our aim is not to concede fewer goals, it is to score and to try not to concede. The opponents had a lot of quality and needed to win. The reaction was good. If we analyse what players score most goals, you see that three of them are out of action and that has an effect on our team".

Solidity

"If we keep the team solid it will be easier to win more games. Any manager would sign on the dotted line to qualify, not concede goals and be in the three competitions".

"We are winning, we have qualified and we have quite a lot of injured players that everyone would deem as very important for us. The victory is very important and even more so following the first leg".

Marcelo

"He was playing a lot of games and we knew that anything could happen. We thought that we would have enough time to reach the international break but the positive thing is that other players such as Pepe, James and Sergio are returning from injuries and Bale, Carvajal and Benzema are very close to doing so. The international break will help us so that those players can come back and compensate for the injuries".

"He told me that he noticed that area was becoming uncomfortable. He stopped immediately. We cannot assess the injury until the scope of it becomes clear. Marcelo was playing really well and that is the key thing. You put up with it because he is playing really well. In this case it was not about fatigue because he said that he was doing well but he has had lots of minutes on the pitch and lots of travel that can take their toll".

Jesé

"I would not single him out. The team suffered in the first half because the rival played well. You have to work harder when you don't have the ball but I will focus on the reaction in the second half because that was really positive".

Reflection

"Sergio Ramos is right. We have to reflect upon the things that we didn't do well in the first half. However, we also had three very clear counterattacks that could have gone our way. Things turned out quite a lot better in the second half and that meant that PSG created fewer dangerous situations".

James

"We needed more dynamism and some fresh legs out there and that is where Kovacic provided an advantage. There were players that had worked an awful lot and he was fresher".
