Visit to Stick 'n' Step in Wallasey

27/09/2012

Today Thursday 27 September, Montse and Linda visited Stick ‘n’ Step in Liscard, Wallasey to join in their Birthday Bash celebrating 10 years of working with children with Cerebral Palsy, and their families. Also invited to join in the birthday celebrations with Montse and Linda were Gerry Ellis, the Mayor of Wirral, and Martin Amlot, Merseyside High Sheriff.

The Mayor of Wirral spoke for a few minutes about how Stick ‘n’ Step have made such a difference to the children and families attending the centre since its opening.

Montse and Linda on behalf of the MBF were also there to make a £3000 donation to Stick ‘n’ Step, which will to go towards a refit of the bathroom at the centre. Montse made the presentation to Kerry Roe-Ely who is Community and Events Fundraiser at Stick ‘n’ Step.

We then met four of the children who attend the centre who all introduced themselves to us by name - there was Harley, Evan, Robyn, and Alethea.

Katalin Deak who is the Lead Conductor at the centre then led the children with singing and movement exercises which are done to help with their mobility and coordination. The children then with the help of Martin Amlot, Merseyside High Sheriff, showed us how they could build a house made from soft foam oversized building blocks.

Harley, Evan, Robyn and Alethea were joined by four children from St Albans Primary School at the table for drinks and the cutting of the birthday cake. This was done much to the delight of the children, by the Merseyside High Sheriff using his sword!
We would like to thank everyone at Stick ‘n’ Step for inviting us to be a part of their special celebrations today, and look forward to seeing the newly refitted bathroom when it is completed.
